Castle
Hastings castle was the home of the invading Normans in 1066,which
took advantage of the hill, which overlooked the port of Hastings.
Today it is the venue for the climax of the ‘Jack-in-the-Green
festival of Morris dancing’. The town is filled with music
and dancing, and the procession finishes in the castle with
the slaying of ‘the Jack’ in order to release the
spirit of summer.

East
and west hill funicular railway
Take a ride in either of these
traditional cliff lifts, and enjoy the spectacular view from
the East hill ride. This is the steepest funicular railway in
Britain, and offers panoramic views over the old town and Hastings.
It also provides direct access to the country park, an ideal
place for cliff top walks and picnics. The west Hill lift rises
